Sabrett Street Cart Hot Dog — all-beef frank with sweet onion sauce, mustard and sauerkraut

The Sabrett cart is a New York street icon — a blue-and-yellow umbrella, a steaming hot dog, and the legendary onion sauce in a sweet-and-sour tomato gravy. Mustard, sauerkraut, and that onion sauce on a snappy all-beef frank: lunch on the go, New York style.

Chef Emily presents Sabrett Street Cart Hot Dog

The New York street-cart classic

An all-beef frank topped with the famous sweet onion sauce, mustard, and sauerkraut — straight from the cart to your kitchen.

Step by stepInstructions

  1. Make the onion sauce: simmer the onion, ketchup, water, sugar, vinegar, and paprika in a saucepan for 15-20 minutes until thick and the onions are tender.
  2. Grill the franks over medium heat until blistered, about 6-8 minutes, and toast the buns.
  3. Place a frank in each bun and top with mustard, sauerkraut, and a generous spoonful of the warm onion sauce.
  4. Serve immediately.

💡 Chef tips & storage

The onion sauce is the signature — simmer it low and slow until the onions are jammy. Keep the sauce warm and spoon it generously over the dog.
