Chef Emily presents Muffuletta

The French Quarter’s great sandwich

A round loaf layered with cured meats, provolone, and a briny olive salad — the muffuletta, a New Orleans icon.

Step by stepInstructions

  1. Split the loaf horizontally. Pile the olive salad generously on both cut sides.
  2. Layer the mortadella, salami, ham, and provolone on the bottom half.
  3. Close the sandwich and press gently.
  4. Wrap tightly and let rest at room temperature for 30 minutes so the juices soak in.
  5. Slice into wedges and serve.

💡 Chef tips & storage

Make the olive salad a day ahead — it gets better as the flavors meld. Let the assembled sandwich rest under a weight for 30 minutes so the bread absorbs the olive oil.
