Neck bones and rice with gravy

Pork neck bones slow-simmered until tender and richly flavored, served over fluffy white rice.

Humble bones, glorious gravy

Pork neck bones braise into fall-apart tenderness with a rich, savory gravy — served over rice, it’s pure soul food soul.

Step by stepInstructions

  1. Season the neck bones with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  2. Heat the oil in a Dutch oven and brown the bones in batches on all sides; remove.
  3. Cook the onion in the same pot until soft; add the garlic and cook 1 minute.
  4. Return the bones, add the broth, Worcestershire, thyme, and bay leaf. Cover and simmer 2 hours, until the meat is tender.
  5. Uncover and simmer 20 minutes more to thicken the gravy. Serve over rice, sprinkled with parsley.

💡 Chef tips & storage

The gravy is the treasure — don't skim it all away. Serve with greens and cornbread for the full spread.
