Whole lobster steamed simply and served with melted butter — the quintessential New England coastal meal.

The purest lobster dinner

Nothing between you and the sea: sweet lobster meat steamed in seawater-salted steam and dipped in warm drawn butter.

Step by stepInstructions

  1. Add the water and sea salt to a large pot with a steamer basket and bring to a rolling boil.
  2. Add the lobsters head-first, cover, and steam 12-15 minutes, until the shells are bright red and a leg pulls free easily.
  3. Remove the lobsters and let them rest 5 minutes.
  4. Serve with small bowls of warm melted butter and lemon wedges, with crackers for the claws.

💡 Chef tips & storage

Steam, don't boil — it keeps the meat sweet and tender. A lobster is done when a small leg twists off cleanly.
