Nathan’s Famous style hot dog — grilled all-beef frank with mustard and sauerkraut

Nathan’s Famous has been grilling all-beef franks on the Coney Island boardwalk since 1916, and the formula is still untouchable: a snappy, juicy frank, a soft bun, and a little mustard and sauerkraut. It’s the taste of a New York summer.

Chef Emily presents Nathan's Famous Style Hot Dog

The Coney Island classic

Snappy all-beef franks grilled until blistered, tucked into a soft bun with mustard and sauerkraut — boardwalk perfection.

Step by stepInstructions

  1. Heat a grill or griddle over medium heat. Grill the franks, turning often, until browned and blistered, about 6-8 minutes.
  2. Warm the sauerkraut in a small pan and toast the buns cut-side down until golden.
  3. Place a frank in each bun and top with mustard, sauerkraut, and grilled onions if you like.
  4. Serve immediately.

💡 Chef tips & storage

Grill the franks over medium heat until the casings blister and split slightly — that snap is the whole point. Heat the sauerkraut and onions on the same grill.
