Frito pie — corn chips topped with warm chili, melted cheddar and diced onion

Frito pie is the Texas ballpark classic that never goes out of style — a bag of Fritos split open and topped with warm chili, melted cheddar, and diced onion. Whether it’s served in the bag at a stadium or layered in a casserole dish at a county fair, it’s pure Lone Star comfort.

Chef Emily presents Frito Pie

The Texas ballpark classic

Corn chips buried under warm chili, melted cheddar, and diced onion — Frito pie, served the Texas way.

Step by stepInstructions

  1. Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Split the Fritos bag open lengthwise, or divide the chips between 4 bowls.
  3. Spoon the warm chili over the chips.
  4. Top with the shredded cheddar and diced onion.
  5. For the baked version, transfer to a baking dish, cover with cheese, and bake 10 minutes until bubbling. Serve hot with jalapeños if you like.

💡 Chef tips & storage

The classic is served right in the bag — open it, pour in the chili, and let everyone dig in. For a fork-friendly version, layer the chips, chili, and cheese in a small baking dish and broil until the cheese melts.
