Blueberry Muffins

Blueberry muffins became popular across the United States in the 19th century as blueberries, native to North America, were widely foraged and later cultivated. The quick-bread muffin format, leavened with baking powder rather than yeast, made them an easy, fast breakfast treat by the early 20th century.

Moist, tender, and bursting with berries

A simple batter studded with fresh blueberries bakes up into soft, golden-topped muffins perfect for breakfast or a snack.

Step by stepInstructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 190°C and line a muffin tin with liners.
  2. Whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the melted butter, eggs, milk, and vanilla.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed, then fold in the blueberries.
  5. Divide the batter among the muffin cups.
  6. Bake 18-20 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean.

💡 Chef tips & storage

Toss the blueberries in a spoonful of flour before folding them in to keep them from sinking to the bottom. Don't overmix the batter, or the muffins will turn out dense.
