Creamy green bean casserole topped with crispy fried onions

Tender green beans baked in a creamy mushroom sauce and topped with crispy fried onions.

The holiday table’s workhorse

Three ingredients, endless nostalgia — green beans in mushroom cream under a canopy of crispy onions, on every Midwest holiday table.

Step by stepInstructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Stir the soup, milk, soy sauce, and pepper in a bowl; fold in the green beans and 2/3 cup of the fried onions.
  3. Transfer to a 1 1/2-quart baking dish.
  4. Bake 25 minutes until bubbling, then top with the remaining onions and bake 5 minutes more until golden.

💡 Chef tips & storage

For a from-scratch twist, use sautéed mushrooms and homemade cream sauce — but the classic version is beloved for a reason. Watch the onions in the last 5 minutes so they don't burn.
