All-beef Chicago hot dog with all the classic toppings on a poppy seed bun

An all-beef hot dog piled with mustard, onion, relish, tomato, pickle, and peppers — no ketchup, ever.

Dragged through the garden

Seven toppings, one poppy-seed bun, zero ketchup. That’s the Chicago way — a snappy all-beef dog dressed to impress.

Step by stepInstructions

  1. Simmer the hot dogs in water 5-8 minutes until plumped.
  2. Steam or toast the poppy seed buns until warm and soft.
  3. Place each dog in a bun.
  4. Top in order: yellow mustard, diced onion, sweet relish, a tomato slice or wedges, a pickle spear, one sport pepper, and a shake of celery salt.
  5. Serve immediately — no ketchup, and that's the rule.

💡 Chef tips & storage

The order of toppings is part of the tradition. If you can't find sport peppers, a pickled jalapeño is the closest stand-in.
